STEP 1
The Executive’s Intelligent Leadership journey starts with a short meeting with you and, if required, a sponsoring executive/team member to discuss the goals of the coaching experience, provide context and background, and discuss the proposed roadmap and schedule.
STEP 2A
With this completed, we then schedule one or two days, depending on the requirements, to delve into the day-to-day of the executive experience. This step must take place within 5 days of the Step 1 meeting. During this one (or two) day session, I will get to know you first hand for a more thorough understanding of your personality, your thinking, your perceptions, and more. In addition, we will spend time together over lunch or dinner for a more personal and informal interaction. Our objective over the day(s) is for us to build a foundation and bond of trust and rapport. This is crucial to achieve the goals that we established in our initial meeting.
Ultimately, I will assess the strength and vibrancy of both your “inner-core” and “outer-core” capabilities utilizing my experience and observations of you, as well as a combination of structured in-depth interviews and objective assessments. Also, I almost always build-in one day of shadowing, in which I observe your “real life” actions and interactions with direct reports, colleagues, over the phone, in meetings – everything you do in a day.
STEP 2B
In addition, to get a more complete picture of your ability and challenge areas, I’ll supplement these assessments with 360-degree interviews involving key stakeholders and constituents (board members, C-level executives, direct reports) as well as survey a larger population of employees using Mattone’s Strategic-Tactical Leadership Index 360-Survey or the organization’s sponsored 360-Survey. From these, I can identify and extract your leadership strengths and development needs. Typically, we will need to schedule a full-day to debrief and discuss the themes and results of the assessments.

STEP 3
We can then transition from the assessment step to introducing you to your Core Purpose and creating your Core Purpose Statement (CPS). One of the most powerful methods for cultivating a leader’s passion is to hone in on your vision of the essence – not just the person your must become, but an even bigger person than the one you want to become. To do this, we have to have in place a Core Purpose Statement – a philosophy or creed to live by. This is your overarching guideline to abide by when work and life get really tough. The CPS outlines your beliefs that you live by when you’re challenged. The results from the CPS ultimately becomes your legacy.
The Core Purpose Statement captures the true nature and lifeblood of the person and leader you want and must become. It:
Declares the qualities you want and must develop
Articulates what you want and must accomplish
States what contributions you want and must realize.
Clarity on these issues is critical because it affects everything else— your goals, your decisions, your paradigms, and the ways you choose to spend your time.
STEP 4
With my guidance and the use of the Intelligent Leadership proprietary tools, we will create your initial leadership professional development plan (based on the diagnostic phase and your CPS) that focuses on strengthening your:
Indisputable Strengths
Surprise Strengths
Indisputable Development Needs
Surprise Development Needs
While this sounds like a lot, it is important to limit your focus to only one element per area.

STEP 5
With my unfailing support, guidance, and performance coaching, we will meet with your stakeholders and constituent groups individually and collectively to share any number of things such as your drive and passion to become the best leader you can be and securing the input, support and guidance from your stakeholders without which you cannot achieve your vision.
I’ll coach you, and provide the tools, professional development, guidance and preparation, to invite and incorporate positive developmental suggestions from your key stakeholders and constituent groups so you can finalize your leadership development plan.
ONGOING
With my ongoing performance coaching, support and guidance, you will start executing your plan while ensuring that key stakeholders and constituents provide quarterly feedback to you on the progress you’re making on your leadership professional development plan.
Depending on your goals and what you want to achieve, this process can anywhere from 3 to 12 months. I work confidentially with your on implementing powerful change strategies that leverage your considerable leadership capabilities while strengthening your professional development opportunities. Your future self depends on first strengthening your “inner-core” as a foundation to strengthening your “outer-core” leadership skills.
